Panasonic Eco Solutions awarded Smart Energy Innovation award at the 2017 Game Changer award winners - Three years in a row.

MISSISSAUGA, ON (December 08, 2017 ) –  Panasonic Eco Solutions Canada Inc. was recently awarded the 2017 ‘Smart Energy Innovation’ Game Changer award at the annual Solar Canada trade show and conference last month hosted by the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA)

Panasonic’s award winning project is located on the campus of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and was a collaboration between public utilities, industry collaborators and was supported through Ontario’s Smart Grid Fund. The project integrates 500 kW/kWh Lithium-ion battery energy storage, a Smart Switch for seamless transition of battery storage power from grid to critical load, 50 kilowatts of solar PV and sophisticated controller/optimizer systems to form the microgrid with the campus’s existing 2.4 MW combined heat and power (CHP) generation plant. The smart microgrid will provide emergency power from natural gas co-generation and Panasonic’s battery energy storage system to UOIT’s Clean Energy Research Lab - the critical load, during grid-power faults and interruptions. The smart microgrid will also facilitate a new working laboratory to support UOIT’s research and innovation in engineering and energy sciences.

The Smart Energy Innovation award recognizes successful and innovative efforts to integrate solar into a holistic energy management environment. This will mark the third year in a row that Panasonic Eco Solutions has won a Game Changer award in various categories for solar and energy storage related projects.

“Winning these awards has underscored Panasonic’s unique contribution to expanding renewable energy projects in Canada and this recognition by our industry peers at CanSIA goes a very long way and clearly establishes Panasonic as an innovative market leader in Canada.” Said Walter Buzzelli, Managing Director of Panasonic Eco Solutions Canada.
